About Us
Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania Advocates
(PPSPA) is an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit
501 (c)(4) organization formed as the political arm
of Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania. PPSPA
engages in educational and electoral activity, including
legislative advocacy, voter education, and grassroots
organizing. The mission of PPSPA is to encourage and
protect informed individual choice
regarding reproductive health care, advocate public
policies that guarantee the right to choice and full
and nondiscriminatory access to reproductive health
care, and foster and preserve a social and political
climate favorable to the exercise of reproductive choice
through voter education, candidate endorsement and
other means.
Why Get Involved in Electoral Politics?
By participating in electoral politics, we help create
a climate that guarantees reproductive choices as a
fundamental right for all citizens. Our goal is to
gain pro-choice seats in the legislatures in order
to better reflect the views of the majority of Pennsylvania
voters. The legislative branches of government also
have the power to confirm judicial nominees.
Since its inception in 1986, PPSP Advocates has endorsed
pro-choice candidates, both Republican and Democratic,
in hundreds of races for the State House and Senate.
PPSPA assists candidates by recruiting volunteers,
phone banking, coordinating press conferences and
rallies, writing letters to the editors of local
newspapers, and getting out the vote. Every election
year, PPSP Advocates publishes a voter’s guide
that lists candidates’ positions on choice
and family planning. In addition, PPSP Advocates
works with the Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania PAC
(political action committee), the only PAC in the
state dedicated to advancing the mission of Planned
Parenthood through active participation in the electoral
process.
PPSP Advocates is a 501(c)(4) organization. Contributions
to PPSP Advocates are not tax deductible as charitable
contributions. Contributions may be used for political
purposes, such as supporting or opposing candidates.
